Important information for landlords and letting agents
Most landlords and letting agents now need a licence for each property they let in the borough:
- Selective licence (single household) - compulsory for all residential property let under Scheme 1 and Scheme 2 which covers 79 per cent of the private rented sector
- Additional HMO (house in multiple occupation) licence – compulsory for properties occupied by three or more unrelated occupiers that are sharing facilities such as a kitchen or bathroom
- HMO licence – compulsory for properties occupied by five or more people living in two or more households.
Enforcement is underway. If your property is not licensed you risk prosecution or a fine up to £30,000. A discounted fee of £250 is available until Monday 31 December 2018. Visit the Apply for a property licence page for more information and information on the application process.
