Join the Great British Spring Clean 2022 and become one of the borough’s litter picking heroes!

Published: 24 March 2022

Grab your litter pickers for the Great British Spring Clean 2022 and #BigBagChallenge.

The ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ led national event runs from March 25-April 10 and encourages families and communities to help keep their neighbourhoods clean by picking up litter and filling as many bags as they can during the campaign.

Redbridge Council is encouraging residents to get involved whether it’s keeping your front garden tidy, pounding the streets helping pick up litter or joining community organised litter picks in the borough.

There are lots of ways to take part from pledging a few minutes a day to pick up litter whilst walking the dog, to hosting a big clean up in the community.

In support, the council is lending equipment to residents and hosting community events to celebrate keeping the borough clean and green

Whether you choose to fill one bag during a litter pick, or even challenge yourself to fill a bag a day over a set period of time – it all counts!

How to get involved:

Organise a clean-up in your community

Organising a litter pick is an excellent way to meet neighbours and sends out a strong message that the community will not tolerate littering and dumping rubbish. You can book and borrow litter pickers from one of the following four libraries:

  • Redbridge Central Library
  • Goodmayes Library
  • Fullwell Cross Library
  • Wanstead Library

For more information, including applying to borrow a litter picker go to: www.redbridge.gov.uk/our-streets/spruce-up-your-neighbourhood/

Join a Redbridge Council Community Litter Pick:

Grab your plastic -free picnic basket and head to a community pop up picnic with a litter themed story telling session, followed by a group litter pick. No need to book – just turn up:

Saturday 26 March, 11am

South Park, Ilford, IG3 9AA - By the Children’s play park.

Friday 8 April, 11am

Barkingside Recreation Ground, IG6 2HZ

Both events will be led by the council’s Neighbourhood Team, and those attending will be able to chat with the team about their work with local communities, and how residents can get involved with helping make their neighbourhoods cleaner, greener and more vibrant.

Additional litter picking events led by Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure are also taking place in the following parks. No need to book - just turn up and join the litter picking fun!
