Leader's update - Friday 5 June 2026

Published: 05 June 2026 Cllr Kam Rai

This week has been very exciting in the council as we continue to turn what we promised in our manifesto into deliverable council plans.

The thousands of conversations that councillors had during the election period have informed our objectives and I’m really excited for what they mean for the future of our borough.

We’ve got plans to expand our green spaces, including building four new pocket parks. We’re planning to bring 1,000 new affordable homes to our borough. We’re also investing in our services and facilities to make sure that Redbridge is the best place to grow up and grow old.

One of the new facilities due to open soon is the new school for children with SEND in Ilford. This is a state-of-the-art facility that means more local children get the education and support they need closer to home.

Throughout next week, the council and its partners have arranged over 50 events to celebrate UNICEF’s International Day of Play. You can find the full list of activities here.

This work builds on our UNICEF child-friendly recognition and is part of our plans to make Redbridge an even better place to be a child.

Megamix, our unique and brilliant summer and Easter holiday activity programme will be opening for booking very soon. Some activities require booking in advance, so please do check the website for more information.

The programme is open to all Redbridge children aged for aged five and over. The activities range from sports, dance and drama to learning new music skills and digital workshops.

There truly is something for every child, whatever they are interested in. All sessions are held in local facilities and venues in and around the borough. There will be adapted sessions for those children that would benefit from additional support, including cycling, water sports and arts & crafts.

Please do get involved and enjoy all the opportunities we have locally.
