The Great British EV Rally is coming to Redbridge

Published: 5 July 2022

The Great British EV Rally (GBEVR), a demonstration of UK EV charging infrastructure combined with clean and innovative vehicle technology, is coming to Redbridge on Thursday 7 July.

Sponsored by the UK’s leading leasing specialists, Lex Autolease, the idea is to demonstrate EVs' roles in UK fleets. Improving efficiency, saving money and overall, helping reach net zero.

The Rally is setting off from the ‘Top of the UK’ at Royal House, Castle & Gardens of Mey and will embark on a five-day, 1,200+ mile ‘e-Rally’, with them visiting Derby Road, Ilford, between 11:00 and 1:30 on day four before finishing at the ‘Foot of the UK’, Land’s End, on Friday 8 July.

Each of the participating vehicles will carry eye-catching branding, and they will be driven by fleet professionals, key industry people, media and even three Guinness World Record Holders.

The GB EV Rally will feature teams comprising many of the biggest names in UK industry. Drivers will stop at each Checkpoint, take a picture and share it across the various social media platforms. You can follow progress on LinkedIn and Twitter.

The London Borough of Redbridge is committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030, making the borough a greener and healthier place for our residents to live.

Redbridge currently provides 62 publicly available charge points throughout the borough. By March 2023, 310 new slow lamppost electric vehicle charge points will be installed across Redbridge, with feedback from residents helping to determine the locations of the on-street charge points.

This will increase the availability of plug-in vehicle charging infrastructure for those residents who do not have access to off-street parking.

Our commitment to expanding Redbridge’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure has also seen us team up with Uber further to increase on-street EV charge points in the borough.

There are 174 new charge points due for installation. We're making it easier for you to make the switch to EVs. Find out more here.

Councillor Jo Blackman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Civic Pride, said: “We’re proud to have been selected to showcase the transition to electric vehicles at the Great British EV Rally.

“We’re significantly increasing our electric charging infrastructure with hundreds of new charging points being installed across the borough. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to charge their electric vehicles. We want to help make Redbridge a greener and healthier place to live and help our residents reduce their carbon footprint.

"I look forward to welcoming the EV rally to Redbridge on Thursday 7 July.”
