Reusable Nappy Week 2024: Sign-up for Redbridge Council’s 1-2-1 chat sessions to find out about the money saving and planet friendly benefits of using reusable nappies

Published: 19 April 2024

In Redbridge nearly 59,000 disposable nappies are thrown away every day, which is not only harmful to the environment, but also costly for families.

Redbridge Council is running a ‘call up and chat’ event during Reuseable Nappy Week 2024 offering local families and parents the chance to find out more about the money saving and environmental benefits of using reusable nappies.

Officers from Redbridge Council’s Neighbourhood Engagement and Education team will be hosting the personalised  ‘call and chat’ sessions during Reusable Nappy Week, taking place April 22-28, to help dispel some of the myths around reusable nappies, share information about low-cost trial packs and answer questions, including those about using the nappies.

The 20-minute, 1-2-1 calls are being offered by team members who are also parents themselves and are currently using reusable nappies with their own children, enabling them to share their own experiences, tips, and advice too.

Chat sessions are being run between 11am and 3pm on Monday 22, Tuesday 23, and Friday 26 of April. To reserve a spot please register on the link below first, and a member of the team will be in touch to arrange either a phone or video call – the choice is yours:

Beth Mathieson, one of the hosting officers at the event, said: “The thought of switching to reusable nappies can be daunting at first, but it’s a lot easier than people think and you save a lot of money. I’ve been using reusable nappies on my little one, and I’ve definitely noticed a big difference financially, and it’s great knowing they aren’t impacting harmfully on the environment. The council chat sessions are a great way to get all your questions about reusable nappies answered. Whether you're currently using cloth nappies and want specific advice on washing or fit, or whether you are looking to start, we’re here to talk it through with you.”

In the first 2.5 years of a baby’s life, they will have needed at least 4,000 nappy changes. That’s a lot of nappies! Parents can save over £1000 a year by making the switch to reusable nappies, and there are still plenty of savings to be made even if you only opt to use reusable nappies sometimes.

Redbridge Council offers a reusable nappy trial pack, worth over £35, for just £5 to families with children under 18 months (limit of one pack per child).
