Attendance in school

It is the responsibility of parents and carers to make sure their child attends school regularly and on time. If your child misses school without a good reason, you could face legal action.

Start your child at school later

If your child was born between 1 April and 31 August, they are classed as summer born. They could delay starting school until September after they turn five, a year later than normal. Your child would either start in year 1 (with other children in their age group) or in reception.
