Redbridge 11 plus

The 11 plus test is used by grammar schools to help decide which children are offered a place.

You must register for the test when your child is in Year 5. It takes place in Year 6, when children are around 10 or 11 years old.

Things to think about before registering

If you do not live in the common catchment area for the Redbridge Grammar Schools, please do not register your child to sit our test. We can't offer a place at either of the Redbridge Grammar Schools to candidates living outside the catchment area, no matter how well they do.

To find out if you live in the common catchment area, go to Redbridge maps. Select 'education', then '11+ common catchment area' and type in your postcode. The map will show where your address is located. Your child needs to live in the blue lined area on the map.

There is a risk that individual grammar schools or grammar school groups may schedule their entrance tests on the same day. Most set their tests in the first two or three weeks of September. Parents must choose which grammar school tests their child will take based on their school preferences.

If you register your child up for the Redbridge Grammar School test, we can't offer a different test date if they miss it because they are taking another entrance test on the same day.

If your child needs special arrangements for tests like SATs, please let us know when you apply. You’ll also need to provide the care plan from your child’s primary school. This needs to outline the test setting for your child.

This is important so your child can have the right support and environment during their test.

If your child is starting Year 7 in September 2026 and you want to apply to either of the following schools:

You must register them for the test before 5pm on Sunday 15 June 2025.

Make sure your child lives in the common catchment area. Choose 'education', then '11+ common catchment area' and type in your postcode. Your child needs to live in the blue lined area on the map.

The test takes place on Friday 19 September 2025. You must bring the completed 11 plus photo ID form to the test. Without it, your child cannot take the test.

The test results are emailed to you in the middle of October.

Travel and parking arrangements
