Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
The MHST is part of a national programme that is developing across England.
The MHST works closely with educational settings. We offer early intervention support so that emotional and mental health needs can be addressed before they become more serious.
By working in partnership with school communities, the MHST helps to raise awareness, reduce negative stigma, and improve emotional wellbeing for children, young people, and parents.
The MHST includes managers, Clinical Supervisors, Senior Practitioners, and Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs).
Each school also has a dedicated clinical link, such as a psychologist, family therapist, or social worker, as well as an EMHP.
Support we offer young people and parents
- short, evidence-based support for children and young people with anxiety, low mood, or behaviour difficulties
- we work directly with students in secondary schools
- we work with parents of primary school children
- Involvement with the MHST can only happen with consent
Support we offer schools and colleges
- support to Senior Mental Health Leads in educational settings with whole school wellbeing and mental health promotion
- mapping the school’s mental health provision
- training and consultation, for example, peer support, restorative approaches, and staff consultation
- group interventions for young people in schools
- advice to educational staff and signpost to specialist services when needed
