Free school meals

From September 2026, your child can get free school meals if your household receives Universal Credit, no matter how much your household earns. This includes children in a full-time state-funded nursery class and children in Year 3 or above.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to free school meals. This is funded by Mayor of London.

You still need to apply for free school meals if you get any eligible benefits.

We'll check each year that children still qualify for free school meals. Your school may ask you for more information if needed.
