Ultra Low Emission Zone(ULEZ)

The Ultra Low Emission Zone expands into Redbridge in October 2021

Have you checked your vehicle?

Air pollution is not just a central London problem, with many areas still exceeding the legal limits for pollution across the city.  That is why from 25 October 2021, the central London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding to create a single, larger zone up to the North Circular Road (A406) and South Circular Road (A205). The North and South Circular Roads themselves are not in the zone.

This will include western areas of the London Borough of Redbridge such as South Woodford, Snaresbrook, Wanstead, and Aldersbrook. To find the interactive map of the zone. Visit tfl.gov.uk/ulez-2021

The expanded ULEZ will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends (except Christmas day), with a £12.50 daily charge for vehicles that do not meet the required emissions standards.

Cars, motorcycles, vans and other specialist vehicles (up to and including 3.5 tonnes) and minibuses (up to and including 5 tonnes) will need to meet the required ULEZ emissions standards when driving within and into the expanded zone or pay a daily charge.

Four out of five cars already meet the ULEZ emissions standards, but owners of the remaining older cars, motorcycles, lighter van and minibuses need to take action.

How can I find out about this?

If you live in or expect to drive through the ULEZ you can check if your vehicle meets the ULEZ emissions standards and how it could affect you. Visit   tfl.gov.uk/ulez-2021

Discounts and exemptions

Some drivers and vehicles qualify for at least a temporary discount from the Ultra Low Emission Zone charge (ULEZ). Others are entirely exempt. For full details please visit https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptions

ULEZ Scrappage Schemes

For those who may find it difficult to meet the ULEZ standards with their own vehicles, there are a number of scrappage schemes, totalling £48m, to support small businesses, charities, low income and disabled Londoners to prepare for the expansion of the scheme.

The Car and Motorcycle Scrappage scheme helps low income and disabled Londoners switch to cleaner vehicles and greener forms of transport. This scheme is open to people who live within the 32 London boroughs or the City of London and receive certain means-tested benefits or non means-tested disability benefits who own a car or motorcycle that does not meet the ULEZ emissions standards.

manages the scheme. More information can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/car-and-motorcycle-scrappage-scheme
