Ultra Low Emission Zone(ULEZ)
Ultra Low Emission Zone in Redbridge (October 2021)
To help improve air quality an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be in place in central London from 8 April 2019. Most vehicles including cars and vans will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or pay a daily charge to travel within the area of the ULEZ.
From 25 October 2021, the ULEZ area will be expanded to include the inner London area bounded by the North and South Circular Roads. This will include western areas of the London Borough of Redbridge such as South Woodford, Snaresbrook, Wanstead, and Aldersbrook.
Find out more about the ULEZ zone boundaries and if it affects you.
If you live in or expect to drive through the ULEZ you can check to see if your vehicle will be impacted using TfL's Vehicle Checker.
ULEZ Scrappage Schemes
There are two scrappage schemes available to help replace vehicles that don't meet the ULEZ standards
Scrappage scheme for vans and minibuses
The Mayor of London has launched a scrappage scheme to help tackle London's air quality crisis. Under the scrappage scheme, eligible businesses with up to 50 employees and charities can apply for funds to scrap up to three older, more polluting vans and charity minibuses and switch to cleaner vehicles.
If you meet the eligibility criteria for vehicles and organisations you can apply for one of three funds:
- Option 1: Scrappage for frequent users of the Congestion Charge area (£7,000)
- Option 2: Scrappage and purchase/lease of Euro 6 replacement (£7,000)
- Option 3: Scrappage and contribution towards running costs (including insurance) of an electric vehicle (£9,500)
The grant payment is made up of £7,000 for scrapping ULEZ non- compliant vehicles plus a £2,500 contribution towards running costs (including insurance) of a replacement electric vehicle(s).
