Funeral parking exemption

You can apply to have parking restrictions relaxed in Controlled Parking Zones for:

  • the body of the deceased to return home before the funeral
  • funeral services held at a religious institution

Parking restrictions will not be relaxed for wakes, life celebrations or post funeral hospitality.

All cemeteries and crematoriums in Redbridge have their own off-street parking facilities.

We automatically grant an exemption for official funeral vehicles used during the course of a funeral, such as hearses and chief mourner cars. There is no need to apply for these vehicles.

Cost

There is no cost for a funeral exemption.

Parking at a family home

In some faiths, the body of the deceased returns home before the funeral for visitors to pay their respects.

We allow a temporary relaxation of restrictions for up to ninety minutes.

At other times, visitors can:

  • park in the streets where we have confirmed that the restrictions have been relaxed
  • use nearby paid-for parking bays (RingGo)
  • use visitor parking vouchers
  • use public transport

Parking at a religious institution

We allow a temporary relaxation of restrictions for up to two and a half hours.

At other times, visitors can:

  • park in the streets where we have confirmed that the restrictions have been relaxed
  • use nearby paid-for parking bays (RingGo)
  • use public transport
