Blue Badge

What is a Blue Badge? 

The Blue Badge Scheme (Disabled Persons Parking Scheme) is a national scheme for disabled people with severe mobility problems. A Blue Badge helps you to park closer to your destination, either as a driver or passenger.


Are you eligible for a Blue Badge?

You receive a higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance

When you apply you will need to provide a full copy of your letter of entitlement including all pages dated within the last 12 months showing the following:

  • full name
  • current address
  • start and end date of your benefit
You receive War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement

When you apply you will need to provide a copy of your letter from the Service Personnel Veterans Agency. Please call them on 0800 169 2277 if you don’t have this.

You receive Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) award, tariffs 1-8  

When you apply you will need to provide a copy of your award letter from the Service Personnel Veterans Agency (SPVA) confirming you have a permanent and substantial disability that causes inability to walk or very considerable difficulty walking. If you don’t have this letter please call the SPVA on 0800 169 2277.

You are registered as blind under the National Assistance Act 1948 (partially sighted people do not automatically qualify)

When you apply you will need to provide a copy of your Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI). 

You receive eight points or more under the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) - must have eight points in 'Moving around' section

When you apply you will need to provide a full copy of your statement of entitlement including all pages clearly showing the score you receive, dated within the last 12 months showing the following:

  • full name
  • current address
  • start and end date of your benefit
You have a child under three years old and need to transport bulky medical equipment for urgent treatment, or always be near a vehicle so they can be treated or driven to a place for treatment for a permanent illness


You drive regularly, have a severe disability in both arms and are unable to operate, or have considerable difficulty operating, all or some types of parking meter, and are able to provide valid proof that your vehicle has been adapted to your disability (V5 document or vehicle insurance)


You have a permanent and substantial disability which affects your mobility and means you have considerable difficulty in walking)


Completing your application

Please note if you are renewing, please apply 6 to 8 weeks prior to your existing badge expiring to make sure your new badge reaches you in time if approved.

  1. The application is completed on the GOV.UK website
  2. Make a note of the things you'll need before applying from the list on the GOV.UK page
  3. You'll be asked to check your eligibility and answer questions about your disability as you fill in the application form. For further information on your eligibility for a Blue Badge please view the Department for Transports guidance
  4. You will then be asked to make payment online, Blue Badges cost £10 whether it's your first one or you're renewing or replacing it or if your badge has been lost or stolen.
  5.  Once you've completed the form your details will be sent to us to process
  6. You can then attach your evidence documents to the application.  Please note that if documents are not received within 10 working days of receipt of your application, your application will be cancelled. 

  7. Once we have your documents we will make contact with you about the next steps.

If your application was submitted more than 6 weeks ago, you have provided all relevant supporting information and you haven’t been advised of a decision or received your blue badge, please call 020 7520 7205.


Using your blue badge

The badge is for your use and benefit only. It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped.
