Apply for an essential user parking permit
You can apply for an essential user parking permit if you work for, or are connected to the:
- health service
- fire service
- Metropolitan Police
- Redbridge Council
While you wait for your permit to arrive You’ll not be able to park in your parking zone until you receive the parking permit and can display this in your car or van.
How to get a permit
You'll need to order or renew an essential user parking permit online. You'll need a My Redbridge account.
Apply for an essential user parking permit
You’ll need
- a letter from your employer confirming that the vehicle is essential for business use
- ownership of the vehicle
If you’re the registered owner, you can provide either:
- vehicle registration document
- sales invoice for the vehicle
- valid certificate of insurance with your name as the main policyholder
If you are not the registered owner, you can provide either:
- a signed and dated letter from your employer (if using a company car) confirming you’re an employee
- the vehicle's registration number and address where the vehicle will be kept
- a copy of the logbook and lease agreement showing the vehicle is registered to the company
- a hiring or leasing agreement
- a valid certificate of insurance or policy schedule
Make sure photocopies and documents are clear and readable. This will avoid any delay to your application.
What happens next
Your permit will be sent by post within 10 working days to your work address.
How much parking permit costs
You can order a parking permit for 12 months.
- 12 month essential worker parking permit is £456.50
Cancel your permit
A refund will be issued for each full calendar month left on the permit. There is a £27.50 admin fee which will be taken from the total refund amount.
We’ll refund the amount to the same card you used to order the parking permit.
You’ll need to email parkingpermits@redbridge.gov.uk with evidence that your original permit has been destroyed.
Change details of parking permit online
You need to update your parking permit for it to stay valid when you:
- change your work (in Redbridge)
- buy or start using a new vehicle
- change your name
Changing the details of a permit costs £27.50.
You’ll need photos or scans of two documents for proof of a change of
address or your name.
- a bank statement
- a utility bill
- proof that you own the vehicle or that is a company car registered to you
- marriage or civil partnership certificate or deed poll

What happens next
After you have made the application, email parkingpermits@redbridge.gov.uk with evidence that the previous permit has been destroyed.
Your new permit will be sent by post within 10 working days to your work address.
Lost or stolen parking permit
If a permit is lost or stolen you must tell us immediately.
Replacement permits cost £27.50. There is no charge if the permit was stolen and you provide evidence of this. The new permit will show the same expiry date as your previous permit.
Lost permits
You'll need to confirm the permit reference number.
Stolen permits
Report it to the police right away.

- provide us with a crime reference number
- evidence from your insurance company
