Have your say on the future of Ilford

Residents, businesses and community organisations are being invited to help shape the future of Ilford as Redbridge Council, the Greater London Authority and Transport for London launch a public consultation on a new plan for the town centre.
The Mayor of London has identified Ilford as an Opportunity Area, recognising its potential to deliver new homes and jobs for local people, while supporting London's future growth.
The consultation runs until 30 October 2026 and sets out a long-term vision for how Ilford could develop over the next 25 years. It includes proposals for around 6,000 new homes for local families, 1,200 new jobs, improved public spaces, better walking and cycling routes, community facilities and investment in the town centre.
The draft vision includes proposals for a new civic heart around the Town Hall, improved public spaces, better access to the River Roding, more green spaces, improved links across the town centre and new opportunities for skills and training. There are also proposals to create more spaces and activities for young people and strengthen Ilford's cultural offer.
Councillor Matthew Goddin, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration said, "Ilford is one of London's most diverse and best-connected town centres and has been identified by the Mayor of London as an area with huge potential for growth. Working with the Greater London Authority and Transport for London, we have developed a vision that shows how Ilford could grow in a way that benefits residents, with new homes for local people, more jobs, better public spaces and a stronger town centre.
"We want to hear from as many people as possible. Please take a look at the proposals, come along to one of the consultation events if you can, and complete the survey. Your feedback will help shape the future of Ilford."
Feedback will help shape the final plan before it is adopted in 2027. The consultation closes on 30 October 2026.
