Leader's message - Friday 26 September 2025

Published: 25 September 2025 Cllr Kam Rai

I would like to start by wishing Shanah Tovah to everyone marking Rosh Hashanah this week. To all our Jewish residents, I wish you a joyful, peaceful, and fulfilling New Year – a time of reflection, renewal, and hope for the year ahead. For those not observing, this season is also a wonderful reminder of the importance of community, kindness, and new beginnings.

Last weekend I was delighted to join our partners to open Serenity Ilford at Mildmay House, a new women-only gym that provides a safe, welcoming space for health and wellbeing in the town centre. Thank you to Vision RCL and everyone involved in bringing this to life, and you can find out more about membership and joining all Vision gyms here.

We continue to crack down on those who don’t take care of our streets. Recent prosecutions show that fly-tipping will not be tolerated, with some significant fines and costs secured against offenders. You can read about those prosecutions here. I have also reported graffiti and overgrown trees this week and have already seen action taken, which shows what happens when we all play our part. Please keep using Love Clean Streets and our Report It tools to help us keep the borough clean – more info and how to access those here.

There is plenty to get involved in locally. The Hainault Community Activity Day takes place this Saturday, and I encourage you to drop in and meet the teams. We’ll be on Manford Way from 10am, with great opportunities for residents to get involved with career advice, smartening up the area and coming together with neighbours.

I will be in Liverpool at Labour Conference from Sunday, making the case for fair funding for Redbridge and for national support to deliver the replacement of Broadmead Road Bridge. I will keep fighting for the investment our residents deserve.

Finally, the Autumn issue of Redbridge Life should have arrived on your doormat in the last week or two. If you have not received it, please let us know so we can put that right and make sure you are on the delivery list for future editions.
