Redbridge Partners with Emergency Services to Promote Safe Festivities

Published: 24 October 2025 A diverse group of people stands together in front of a large building, smiling and engaging with one another.

As Bonfire Night and other cultural celebrations approach, Redbridge Council has teamed up with the London Fire Brigade to raise awareness about firework safety and encourage residents to celebrate responsibly.

Recently, Redbridge Council joined forces with the London Fire Brigade in Ilford for a two-day Celebrate Safely campaign — a high-energy initiative designed to keep communities safe ahead of the festive season. Alongside LFB, Redbridge Police, and TfL, the campaign delivered a clear message: celebrate with joy, but treat fireworks with care.

Crews visited high-rise buildings, spoke to hundreds of residents, and shared fire safety advice in multiple languages. At Ilford Station, the team engaged with the public and even carried out fundraising for the Firefighters Charity.

The joint campaign highlights key safety advice to reduce the risk of injury, property damage, and distress to others — especially children and pets.

Top Firework Safety Tips:

  • Attend an organised public display — it’s the safest way to enjoy fireworks.
  • Be considerate to neighbours, especially those with pets or young children.
  • Never set fireworks off from a balcony — this is extremely dangerous and has led to tragic consequences.
  • Store fireworks securely and for as little time as possible.
  • Keep a bucket of water or hosepipe nearby in case of emergency.
  • Never return to a firework once lit — even if it appears faulty.
  • Never throw fireworks.

Cllr Saima Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “It was fantastic to team up with the London Fire Brigade in Ilford for our two-day Celebrate Safely campaign — a fun and engaging way to help keep our communities safe ahead of the festive season.

“Fireworks can be magical, but they do come with risks. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to enjoy organised displays, follow safety tips, and look out for neighbours and pets. And please — never set fireworks off from a balcony. It’s incredibly dangerous and has led to serious accidents. Let’s make this year’s celebrations joyful, safe, and welcoming for everyone.”

Angelo Comparini, Station Commander for Ilford, said: “We’re urging Londoners to attend organised displays rather than using fireworks at home. If you do host your own, buy from a licensed seller, follow the Fireworks Code, and keep fireworks well away from buildings, trees, pets, and people.

“Never set fireworks after drinking alcohol, and once lit — don’t go back to them. Let them cool before disposal, and most importantly, celebrate safely. We’re here if you need us.”
