Leader's update - Friday 7 November 2025
Published: 31 October 2025
As we head towards the end of the year, Redbridge is full of opportunities to come together, reflect, and celebrate.
This weekend, communities across the borough will gather for Remembrance services to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I hope many of you will be able to join the Mayor, dignitaries, service personnel and residents at the Ilford War Memorial on Sunday 9 November from 10.35am. It’s a powerful moment to stand together in gratitude and remembrance. You can find details of all local services taking place on our website.
We are also getting close to the start of our Christmas Light Switch-On events, beginning at George Green in Wanstead on Friday 21 November. These joyful gatherings will continue across the borough - in Hainault, Valentines Mansion, Seven Kings, Barkingside and Ilford Town Centre, where I’m sure the Ilford BID will once again deliver a spectacular display on Saturday 22 November. I’d love to see as many of you as possible joining in the festive fun. Full details of each event are available on our Discover Redbridge website.
I’m also delighted that my annual Christmas Card Design Competition is up and running, with primary school children invited to help create my official card. Last year’s entries were truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings. Please do share the competition with local schools and community groups. Details on how to enter are on our Let’s Talk Redbridge website.
And finally, on Saturday 15 November, we’ll be holding our third Community Activity Day outside Fullwell Cross Library in Barkingside. From 10am to 12.30pm, the Redbridge Healthy Bus and council teams will be on hand to offer advice, support, and information. It’s a great chance to connect, get active, and find out more about what’s happening locally.
