Redbridge Council is running two FREE composting workshops to help local people put their food waste to good use and create a greener borough.
The family-friendly workshops are being run on Thursday 28 May at two of the Council’s park-based community composting sites:
• Seven Kings Park, Thursday 28 May 2026, 10am - 12pm. The team will be situated near the outdoor gym area. You can find us using What3words: poem.tuned.farmer
• Goodmayes Park, Thursday 28 May 2026, 2pm - 4pm. The team will be situated near the cafe area. You can find us using What3words: drive.design.spun
Whether you are new to composting or already doing it and just want some extra tips, the workshops are a great way to learn more.
Hosted by Redbridge Council’s Neighbourhoods Engagement Team, the workshops will give composting demonstrations, information on what can and can’t be composted, and the environmental and financial benefits of composting whether it’s done through community composting sites, or via home composting.
There is no need to book a spot, you can just turn up.
Did you know around a third of waste produced in Redbridge is organic waste, including food?
You can help reduce your household waste by at least 30% through composting, which is nature's process of recycling food and other organic waste into nutrient rich sustenance for gardens and green spaces.
It’s also a money saver, as it a means you don’t have to buy compost for your garden.
Composting at home for just one year can also save global warming gases equivalent to all the CO2 an average household kettle produces annually, or a washing machine produces in three months. It’s a great way to reduce your household waste and free up your bins.
For those who are unable to compost at home due to lack of outside space,
community composting sites such as those at Goodmayes Park, and Seven Kings Park are particularly ideal.
The Council is also supporting local people living in flats to set up shared composting bins and community gardens, enabling households who do not have access to a garden to get involved, reduce waste and increase green spaces in the borough.

Looking for more ways to reduce your food waste? Redbridge Council is rolling out a food waste collection service in phases across the borough. Close to 80% of the 10,000 households who were provided with the service, under the first phase of the roll-out, are now using their food caddy - helping reduce waste in the borough.
The rest of the borough will start getting the service from later this year. Keep an eye out on Redbridge Council’s website for more information: https://www.redbridge.gov.uk/bins-waste-and-recycling/food-waste-collections/
