Leader's update - Friday 15 May 2026

Published: 15 May 2026 Cllr Kam Rai

Dear neighbours,

It’s great to be back. I want to begin by saying what a huge honour it is to have been endorsed by our neighbours across Redbridge. Thank you for placing your trust in us – we will work every day to earn it.

We have a strong agenda for the next four years, building on what we’ve already achieved together. This is an agenda for everyone, regardless of who you voted for last week. In Redbridge we reject the politics of division. We are united by a shared love of the place we call home – a borough where we show tolerance, understanding and respect for one another.

Together, over the next four years, we will make this borough an even better place to grow up and to grow old. Work has already begun on delivering the ten pledges we made to you – from fixing our streets and building new social homes, to creating modern leisure facilities that everyone can use and enjoy. We are determined to make visible progress in every neighbourhood, so residents can see and feel the difference.

Alongside this, our focus is on building a cleaner, safer and fairer Redbridge, where opportunity is open to all. That means stepping up support for families facing the cost of living, helping young people into jobs and apprenticeships, and continuing to protect the vital services people rely on. It also means celebrating the diversity and strong community spirit that make Redbridge such a special place to call home.

Just as importantly, we will continue to listen – to your ideas, your concerns, and your ambitions for our community. Strong communities are built in partnership, and I want every resident to feel they have a voice and a stake in Redbridge’s future.

There is much to be proud of in our borough, and much more still to do. I am optimistic about what we can achieve together in the years ahead.

It is an honour to serve you as Leader of the Council.
