Council volunteer network launched to support Redbridge community through COVID-19
Published: 18 March 2020
Redbridge Council has teamed up with local community groups to launch ‘Redbridge Joins Together’ on Facebook - a platform for local people and businesses wanting to help others following the coronavirus outbreak.
Local people across Redbridge have been finding ways to support each other as the borough navigates its way through the recent outbreak, and the new online network has been set up to galvanise this goodwill and community spirit.
‘Redbridge Joins Together’ aims to harness positive action in the community to help those in the borough look out for one another, and offer support to the vulnerable - during the outbreak and beyond.
Local businesses have also been volunteering their support, and are being encouraged to continue to do so through the new Facebook group.
Anyone wishing to help can join via: https://www.facebook.com/groups/redbridgejoinstogether/
Members of the group are being encouraged to share details of what is happening in their area to help others, as well as share useful advice and information.
Leader of the Council Cllr Jas Athwal said: “We’ve always had a strong community spirit in Redbridge, and now more than ever, we need to harness that strength to get us through this challenging period.
“Redbridge Joins Together is a fantastic platform to support those in the community who want to help their neighbours.
“Whether it’s checking on elderly neighbours with a phone call, delivering food to those who are self-isolating, or simply offering moral support during this difficult time, please use this group to post details of what’s happening in your area.”
