Update – Tuesday 16 June 2026 – 2pm

All issues affecting the front block at Memorial Heights have now been fixed. Residents once again have running water and full access to their amenities. We know the past few days have been really difficult, and we want to thank everyone in the front block for their patience while the repairs were carried out.

Habitare, the managing agent, is now overseeing the site and managing any ongoing issues. They are continuing to work closely with contractors and the council to support residents from the rear blocks who had to leave their homes after last weekend’s fire. Helping those residents return home safely and as quickly as possible remains the main priority, and work is progressing at pace to make that happen.

If residents need more information, they can contact Habitare’s enquiry line on 01245 330 291, or view the updates and notices Habitare has published around the site.

Redbridge Council has been supporting residents and emergency services following last night’s fire in the underground car park at Memorial Heights, Newbury Park.

London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service have been on site throughout the day managing access to the building and carrying out initial investigations. Both services have now left the scene, and security for the site has been handed back to the building’s management company.

Council officers remain on site to support residents and coordinate activity with partner agencies. Around 30 families living in the rear block have been allowed back into their homes to collect essential items. Additional residents have made themselves known to council officers today and have been provided with emergency accommodation.

Due to damage to the mains water supply as it enters the site, water has been shut off to the front block. Council officers have arranged bottled water deliveries for affected residents and are working with Essex & Suffolk Water to ensure further supplies are in place.

A structural survey of the building, arranged by the site owner, will take place on Monday.

Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Kam Rai, said: “I want to thank the London Fire Brigade, the Metropolitan Police Service and all the emergency teams who responded so quickly to last night’s fire at Memorial Heights. Their swift actions meant everyone was safely evacuated, and we are extremely grateful that no one was injured.

“This has been a very difficult and unsettling experience for the residents affected. Council officers have been on site throughout the day, helping people collect essential items and arranging emergency accommodation for those who cannot return home. We will continue to support every resident while the building assessments and recovery work take place.”

The Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive visited the site today to speak with residents and understand the situation first-hand.

Residents who need support from the council, including emergency accommodation or welfare assistance, should contact Redbridge Council outside normal office hours on 020 8554 5000.
