Redbridge wins campaign of the year at LGC Awards

Published: 19 June 2025

Redbridge Council’s groundbreaking This Has to Stop (THTS) campaign won Campaign of the Year at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards ceremony last week.

The award recognised the bold and effective approach delivered by the This Has to Stop campaign to tackling street harassment, sexist behaviour, and gender-based violence.

Cllr Kam Rai, Leader of the Council, said: “I am extremely proud of the positive impact the campaign has had and want to offer huge congratulations to everyone involved. THTS has empowered people to speak out, challenge poor behaviour in others, and take action to create a safer borough for everyone, but particularly for women. This campaign has shifted attitudes and driven a measurable change in our community. Once again, Redbridge is leading the way nationally on both community and women's safety.”

Launched in March 2023 by the Community Safety Team, the campaign has gained national attention for promoting safer communities for women and girls. This achievement reflects not only the dedication of the Community Safety Team but also the strong support of our Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, as well as the powerful partnerships that have underpinned the campaign’s success - from behavioural change specialists, Social Engine UK, to local police, schools, and community organisations.

Initiatives such as Real Men Talking encourage men and boys to become allies, while bystander intervention training empowers residents to take safe, proactive steps when witnessing harassment.

THTS-related offences decreased by 21% in Redbridge between September 2023 and 2024, and overall crime in the borough fell by 9.4%, outpacing the London average.

A huge well done to our Reach Out Service, who were shortlisted for Medium Team of the Year, and our Child-Friendly Redbridge Partnership for Public Partnership.
