Redbridge Council has scooped a top award in today's Prestigious MJ Awards.

The council's Planning Team fought off stiff competition to land the Best Council Services Team Award. This category sought entries from local authority service teams who have shown creativity and innovation in their service provision with a clear outcome in an improved service to residents and proven satisfaction despite budget constraints.

Judges were looking for evidence of leadership in addressing the challenges facing Council services, whether through reduced budgets, rising demand or implementation of new legislation.

In response to today's announcement, Cllr Sheila Bain, Cabinet Member for Planning & Planning Enforcement, said: "This is fantastic news. I want to congratulate the officers for this marvellous achievement,

"They are a very talented team and have got where they are through sheer hard work and determination. And this has now been recognised on such a prestigious stage. They have made tremendous progress in the past two years, and today's award is a testament to that and so very well deserved.”

The Awards have been held every year since 2004 with great success, rewarding many officers, managers, teams and councils. The MJ Awards ceremony is one of the major events within the public sector calendar. Winning an MJ Award not only allows local authorities to be recognised for the delivery of their services over the last 12 months but also allows them to share their expertise with their peers.
