Leader of Redbridge Council offers condolences to Ilford murder victim and her family

A police murder investigation is underway following the death of a woman in Cranbrook Road, Ilford, in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 26th).

Cllr Jas Athwal, Leader of Redbridge Council, said:

"I know I speak for all of us in Redbridge when I say my heart breaks for the woman who has died and for her family and loved ones. I cannot begin to imagine their terrible pain and unbearable loss.

"This unspeakable crime has shocked our local community, and I understand that women, in particular, will be deeply affected.

"No words can do justice at this tragic loss to her family and loved ones, and words only go so far in soothing the pain and worry that our communities are feeling at the moment. Only our actions can go some way in reassuring our neighbours about their safety - Redbridge council is working closely with the Metropolitan Police, and we're offering our resources to assist as the police investigation progresses.

"The police have stepped-up patrols in the area, and our council enforcement and community safety officers are working alongside them to ensure there is a visible and reassuring presence in the neighbourhood.

"If anyone has any information, whether they witnessed anything around Cranbrook Road between 2am, and 3am on Sunday morning, or whether they have footage that they think may be relevant, either from a phone, CCTV or a dashcam, I ask them to please get in touch with the police on 0208 345 3715.

"Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online. They will never ask your name and do not trace your call or your IP address."
