Women and girls’ views urgently needed to help shape their future health and wellbeing

Published: 8 June 2021

There is just under a week left to take part in a national consultation that will help shape future healthcare for women and girls not only across the country - but also across Redbridge.

Although women have a longer life expectancy in the UK than men, they still spend a greater proportion of their lives in ill health and disability.

And now because of these disadvantages when it comes to the health and wellbeing of women and girls, the Government has launched a consultation looking at their experiences of health care across the course of their lives.

The Women’s Health Strategy for England sets out an ambitious and positive new agenda on women’s health, with both women’s and girl's voices at the centre. The exercise aims to ensure that the strategy is evidence-based and reflects what women and girls identify as priorities.

Gladys Xavier, Director of Public Health and Commissioning said:

“This is the first-ever women’s health strategy and it is only by hearing the experiences and priorities of women and girls can we work towards improving their health and healthcare provision.

“Please take time to share your views and ensure women that live and work in Redbridge can contribute and shape this strategy.”

The consultation and survey will include a range of issues impacting women and include workplace and mental health topics. The main highlights of issues are from:

  • Pregnancy, childbirth and new-born
  • Infancy and early childhood (1 month- 4 years)
  • Later childhood and early adolescence (5-14 years)
  • Later adolescence and youth (15-24 years)
  • Early adulthood (25-49 years)
  • Middle adulthood (50-64 years)
  • Later adulthood (65 to 79 and 80 years and over)

We encourage you to complete the survey. This consultation closes at 11:45 pm on 13 June 2021 and you can access the survey via the link here: Women’s Health Strategy
