’Safer Routes to Education’ campaign launched by Redbridge Council in partnership with Metropolitan Police

A new campaign offering advice on how children can stay safe during their journeys to and from school was officially launched by Redbridge Council, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, today (Monday 7th June).

The campaign will be running throughout June until 7th July 2021 and will involve resources and information being shared across a range of digital platforms, social media and through our school networks.

We will be sharing online resources to raise awareness of online resources such as the National Property Register but also reminders on what children and young people should do in the event of an emergency and how to report crime anonymously.

The topics we will be covering include; travelling by bike, public transport safety, protecting valuables, knife crime and more.

Cllr Elaine Norman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “By partnering with the Metropolitan Police we have been able to pinpoint the best advice and resources to share with children so they know what we have in place to help if they experience crime. This scheme forms an important part of our ongoing work to make Redbridge a borough that all young people and children can feel safe in.”

Cllr Khayer Chowdhury, Cabinet Member for Crime, Safety and Community Cohesion said: “I hope that this campaign will start a discussion between young people or children and their parents about how to stay safe while travelling around Redbridge. We will be sharing information on how crime can be reported anonymously which we hope will make people feel more confident in reporting any crime or harassment they see or experience.”
