Cllr Kam Rai

Leader's message - Friday 4 July 2025

Published: 4 July 2025

This week, I’ve been attending the Local Government Association Conference in Liverpool, an important moment in the calendar for councils across the country. It’s a chance to share ideas, learn from others, and make the case for the issues that matter most to our communities. I’ve been proud to speak about the work we’re doing here in Redbridge, and I’m bringing back ideas and best practices that can help us go even further.

Back in the borough, the sunshine has been out in full force. Redbridge is looking beautiful, and I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy our parks, green spaces, and events. You should also have received, or will shortly receive, your brand-new Discover Redbridge guide. It’s packed with information about what’s on this summer, and I encourage you to take a look and make the most of everything our borough has to offer.

Last week, Full Council met and passed a motion calling for tighter regulation on illegal e-scooters and e-bikes. We absolutely support and encourage greener travel, but there’s no question that safety must come first. We’re urging the government to act, and we’ll continue working with the police and local partners to keep our streets safe for everyone.

On Monday, we also held a well-attended public meeting at Hawkey Hall in Woodford to discuss Broadmead Bridge. I want to thank everyone who came and took part in what was an honest and open conversation. Reopening the road remains our priority, and we will continue to engage with residents as we work towards a solution. The slides and a summary of the discussion will be published on Let’s Talk Redbridge.

This weekend also marks National Thank You Day. This is a moment to recognise the incredible community spirit we’ve seen across Redbridge. From community planting sessions to litter picks and our recent Community Action Day, residents have come together to keep Redbridge clean, green, and beautiful. I want to say thank you to everyone who’s played a part. You’re helping to make our borough a better place for all.

As always, thank you for your continued support and involvement. There’s always more to do, but together we’re building a Redbridge that is safe, inclusive, and full of opportunity.
