We’re building 159 new homes in Loxford, as part of our Affordable Homes Programme

Published: 1 August 2024

Scheduled for completion in summer 2025, Loxford Lane will boast 159 new homes, consisting of one, two, and three bedroom flats as well as three and four bedroom houses. The site will also see improvements to the green play, recycling and refuse areas.

Our Affordable Homes Programme is the largest building programme undertaken by Redbridge Council and is part of our commitment to providing 600 high quality affordable council homes for local people by the end of 2025. The programme is part-funded from a £50million grant from the Greater London Authority.

Already, hundreds of local people have had the keys to their new homes. As the programme approaches its final year, building contractors recently put the finishing touches to the building frame at Loxford Lane, with work set to begin on putting in the bricks, windows and doors.

Cllr Kam Rai, Leader of Redbridge Council, visited the development today and said, “Our Affordable Homes Programme is helping to address the national housing crisis by providing 600 new homes for local people and families.

Despite all the hard work and progress from the programme, there is still work to be done to reverse years chronic underfunding from central Government to help meet the current demands for housing.

We will continue to do all we can by building hundreds of homes, and by finding long-term homes both inside and outside the borough, and we hope the new Government will support this with the additional funding local authorities need across the country.

In Redbridge our priority is to help those in need of housing into safe, well maintained, sustainable and secure homes they can live in, long-term.

Cllr Vanisha Solanki, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homeless said “A lack of affordable housing and high rents from private rental properties across the capital means families are being priced out of the market. We are building more affordable homes for families in need.”

The homes we are building through the Affordable Homes Programme will be rented to those currently on the housing register. To find more out more, visit our Affordable Homes Programme engagement hub.
