Do you know anyone sleeping rough in the cold weather?

Published: 27 January 2023

Redbridge Council activate SWEP when the Met Office forecasts overnight temperatures dropping below zero and also when there are other severe weather conditions.  With the temperature forecast to drop below freezing, Redbridge Council has put in place the Severe Weather Extreme Protocol  (SWEP) to ensure that anyone sleeping rough on the streets can access help and support.

During the day SWEP can be accessed from the Welcome Centre, where anyone sleeping rough will assessed and referred if applicable. If you see someone sleeping rough, they will need to be referred and assessed at the Welcome Centre, who can be contacted on 0208 514 3283 or via e-mail to info@thewelcomecentre.org.uk

If you have an immediate concern for someone’s health and welfare then you should contact emergency services by calling 999.

If you are sleeping rough or are aware of someone sleeping rough, then please contact Street Link on 0300 500 0914 or access their website www.streetlink.org.uk where a referral can be made, this will be reported to our rough sleeping and outreach team who will carry out a visit either the same or the next day.
