Chief Executive of Redbridge Council steps down

On Monday 5th February, Claire Symonds Chief Executive of Redbridge Council shared her decision to step down from her role following bereavement.

Claire first joined joined Redbridge Council in May 2022, bringing over 30 years’ experience in Local Government and successfully set the Council on a journey of change, overcoming budget challenges to continue to deliver vital services for local people.

As a Redbridge resident who grew up and went to school locally, Claire brought a valuable personal connection and local knowledge which she used to develop closer links between council services and the people who live and work in Redbridge.

Following Claire’s departure Redbridge Council’s Corporate Director of People, Adrian Loades, will continue as Interim Chief Executive.

Adrian Loades, Interim Chief Executive said, “On behalf of all those at the Council, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the leadership and vision that Claire has shown during her time as Chief Executive. It is without a doubt that Claire has set the Council on a clear path of growth and change that will continue to have positive outcomes for years to come.”

Cllr Jas Athwal, Leader of Redbridge Council said, “Claire’s affection for our borough and for her colleagues has shone through in everything she has achieved in her time as our Chief Executive and it speaks to her character that she has already had such an enduring impact.

The foundation of our council is built on the hard work, dedication, and resilience of its staff. Together we have overcome challenges, delivered vital change and positively impacted the lives of those we serve. This vital work will continue as we move forward into this new chapter.”
