Janice Mews building opens as a new Ilford home for community groups

Janice Mews is now open, giving community groups in Redbridge a new place to meet, run activities and support local people.

The newly refurbished hall in Ilford has space for around 60 people, as well as a kitchen, accessible toilets and step-free access. Redbridge Council has invested in this building, to bring it back into use to help voluntary and community organisations continue the work they do every day across the borough.

The first group using the building is Awaaz, a charity that provides services that empower women from diverse backgrounds to improve their health and wellbeing. Their sessions are already helping to bring the space to life.

Janice Mews gives organisations a place to hold meetings, advice sessions, classes, social events and other activities that help people stay connected.

Councillor Kam Rai, Leader of Redbridge Council said, "This space has been created specifically for those people in our community who give so much. They give their time and their resources to help other people. So it's only right that we create a space for them to use throughout the week."
