Redbridge Council is protecting and expanding allotments for local residents

Published: 19 August 2025

Redbridge Council is making a firm commitment to protect existing allotments and create new growing spaces for the future.

Allotments are among the most cherished green spaces in Redbridge, and demand for them has never been higher. With 24 sites across the borough—and all council-owned sites currently full with oversubscribed waiting lists—it’s clear how valued they are by our community.

That’s why As part of the Fairlop Waters Masterplan, we will be allocating additional land for allotments, giving more residents the opportunity to grow their own fruit and vegetables, spend time outdoors, and connect with a thriving local community.

We are proud to support our allotment sites and are actively working to expand our offer. The benefits are clear: allotments promote healthier lifestyles, reduce isolation, and help nature flourish. We want more people in Redbridge to experience these advantages.

Leader of Redbridge Council, Councillor Kam Rai, said: “Our allotments are incredibly popular and every council site in Redbridge is full, which tells you everything about the demand we are seeing locally.

"We are proud to protect these much-loved spaces and to expand them where we can, starting with new provision through our Fairlop Waters masterplan. This is about investing in the things that matter to people and keeping Redbridge a great place to live.”
