Newly resurfaced and painted Maybank Drive in Redbridge

Paving at pace – 40,000 square metres of Redbridge roads resurfaced in just three months

Over half the annual target for road resurfacing, or 40,000 square metres, has been completed by Redbridge Council in just three months, improving key strategic routes across the borough, and repairing neighbourhood streets and roads servicing schools, local businesses and essential services. This has given residents approximately 11km of newly resurfaced roads in the borough.

The resurfacing works for 2025/26 are part of a wider ten-year plan pledging significant continued investment into the borough’s roads to help local people travel smoothly around the borough. Last year under the promise, the council resurfaced over 51,700 square meters of roadway.

Current works commenced earlier this year on Atherton Road in Fullwell, and Beattyville Gardens in Barkingside. Resurfacing then steamed ahead, and the team reached their halfway point ahead of schedule.

Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, Cllr Jo Blackman said, “Achieving this level of resurfacing in such a short time is the result of strong and agile partnership working between Redbridge Council and Kensons. This agile approach has enabled us to maximise our efficiency by incorporating utility providers’ programmes of work into our schedule, which also combines data from surveys and reports from residents.

"We know that good quality roads and pavements are important to local people, and potholes are a regular source of frustration. The speed of this project to-date is the result of our determination to make Redbridge a safer, cleaner, and greener place to live.”

Roads resurfaced in the last three months include Beatyville Road, Wellesley Road, Maybank Road, Atherton Road and Cranbrook Road.
