Statement on recent incidents targeting Jewish communities in London

Published: 21 April 2026 Corner of Ilford Town Hall

"We share our community’s shock at recent incidents targeting Jewish communities across London in recent days, including an attempted arson attack at Kenton United Synagogue over the weekend.

"We know that concerns around safety and security within our Jewish community will be heightened and it is important to be clear that in Redbridge we stand together against those seeking to cause harm or fear. We unite in support of one another, and we will not allow hate or intimidation to divide our borough.

"To provide reassurance, Redbridge Council has increased CCTV coverage and has monitoring in place across key Jewish sites, 24 hours a day. We are also working closely with the police, who are carrying out regular patrols in key areas, including around synagogues. You will see officers present across the borough, who are there to support people and keep communities safe.

"If anyone has concerns, we encourage you to contact the police on 101 or call 999 in an emergency.

"In Redbridge, we have always stood firmly against hate and against those who seek to divide us. We are proud that our communities come together, look out for each other, and stand side by side in difficult moments."
