Statement from Leader of the Council on terrorist attack in Golders Green

Councillor Kam Rai, Leader of Redbridge Council said, "We are horrified by the recent terrorist incident in Golders Green, and our thoughts are with all those affected. This was not a random event or an abstract threat. It was a real and deliberate attempt to cause fear, harm and intimidation.

"We know incidents like this reverberate far beyond the area where they occur. For Jewish residents in Redbridge, anxiety about safety and security will understandably feel heightened. We want to be absolutely clear, in Redbridge, we stand together against antisemitism and against anyone who seeks to intimidate or terrorise communities simply for who they are. Hate has no place here and it will not divide our borough.

"To provide reassurance, Redbridge Council had already increased CCTV coverage and has round-the-clock monitoring in place across key Jewish sites. We are working closely with the police, who are carrying out regular patrols in key areas. You will see officers present across the borough. They are there to protect people and to keep all communities safe. If you have any concerns, please contact the police on 101, or call 999 in an emergency.

"Redbridge has always been a place where communities stand shoulder to shoulder in difficult moments. We reject hatred in all its forms, and we remain united, vigilant and resolute in standing up for one another."
