Recorder Club Advanced

In this class pupils learn the upper notes of the recorder (over the break) and begin learning the treble recorder, building on music reading skills. At this point, pupils often chose to take RMS Stage Exams and become more independent musicians. Entry Standard: Pupils who can play at least an octave on the descant recorder Age: Yr.3+ Progression Routes: Recorder Club Advanced members can progress to our auditioned ensemble – Recorder Consort. Swim Crash Courses

During February Half Term we will be running swimming crash courses for children from Ducklings to Stage 3. Please see the entry requirements for each stage: Ducklings: Little to no water experience is required. Ideal for the youngsters, this popular 20 minute class is centred around building water confidence and skills from an early age. Stage 1: Swim with armbands Unable to swim any distance Little or no water confidence Working towards 5m and National Teaching Plan Stage 1 award Stage 2: Unable to swim more than 5 meters on front or back Unable to complete floating on front or back then returning to upright position Working towards National Teaching Plan Stage 2 award Stage 3: Able to swim 5m front and back Working towards 10m front and back National Teaching Plan Stage 3 award Timetable 9:30 – Stage 3 10:00 – Stage 2 10:30 – Ducklings 11:00 – Stage 1 11:30 – Stage 1 ******Please note: payments and stage timings can be enquired at the relevant centre reception

PanVision Steel Orchestra: Kiskadee

Playing steelpan is great fun and no previous experience is required to join. Pieces are learned by rote, so the ability to read music is not necessary. PanVision Steel Orchestra is divided into two groups: “Kiskadee” and “Ibis”. The “Kiskadee” group is more gently paced, allowing members more time to learn their part and become confident with the music. In some more complex pieces, the two groups combine, with more accessible parts being taught to the Kiskadee group. Entry Standard: No previous experience necessary. Recorder Club Beginners

This class introduces pupils to the recorder and covers the first 5 notes and how to read music. There are performance opportunities at the ends of term and at the Recorder Festival. Pupils completing this class can move on to more advanced recorder classes as they make progress. Learning the recorder is an excellent basis for future instrumental learning and a fun way to learn to read music too. Memory to Memorial: From Warsaw to Valentines

An exhibition showing a selection of work by the artist Stanislaw Brunstein, born in Warsaw in 1914, died in Ilford in 1994. These paintings will take you on the artist’s journey from his beloved Warsaw to post war England, via escape into Soviet Russia, prison, slave labour in Siberia, army service in North Africa, and the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy, whilst also having studied fine art in Warsaw, Paris and Rome. His final destination was a house in a street five minutes away from this very location in Valentines Park.
