Looking to find fun things to do with the family? Well, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a good time. Discover ten free activities to do in and around Redbridge with your family this spring.

No. 1 Try forest yoga and pilates

Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Inhale. Imagine you’re in a forest... make it a reality by heading to Hainault Forest for a 45-minute yoga or pilates session on the first Saturday of every month.

These exercises improve flexibility, strengthen muscles, help relieve stress and anxiety, and can lead to better sleep.

No. 2 Hire a boat or bike

Can you imagine anything better than pottering around Fairlop Waters on a pedal boat or a row boat? It’ll give your legs or arms a workout whilst you enjoy a scenic view of Fairlop Waters.

No experience is needed, but everyone will receive a safety brief and a life jacket before setting sail. How a-boat it?

If you prefer dry land, then the special four-wheeled bikes are the perfect way to cycle around with family or friends.

No. 3 Explore the new sculpture trail at Fairlop Waters

Why not see local people’s designs brought to life in a new sculpture trail that includes animals, flowers, and
even an aeroplane from tree trunks.

There are a total of eight sculptures for everyone to see. Six were designed by local people, and two were designed by Marshall, Fairlop Waters’ onsite chainsaw artist himself.

No. 4 Visit the new exhibition at SPACE Studios Ilford

The new exhibition called ‘A seat at our table’ at SPACE Studios Ilford, features photographer Kenneth Lam, and invites audiences to explore the meals and memories of our cultural identities.

Through the exhibition, Kenneth has recreated a sense of heritage using the table as a powerful symbol of home – as somewhere where we connect and reflect, in addition to being a place of celebration and ceremony.

No. 5 Experience Fairlop Sky Run

If you’re looking for an adrenaline-fuelled day out on your doorstep, head to the Fairlop Sky Run.

You’ll need to mind your footing on the Sky Run high ropes course; it’s designed to challenge users with 44 different elements.

You can also reach new heights on the 50 metre high rock climbing wall.

No. 6 Plan a spring picnic 

Spring is here, and with it the first sunny days and the first coloured flowers. So, why not prepare a nice outdoor picnic with family or friends and head to a local park near you

Redbridge is home to beautiful parks and green spaces, some of which have received prestigious Green Flag Awards.

No. 7 Discover Foxburrows Farm 

Foxburrows farm within Hainault Park keeps a whole range of animals for you to come and visit for free.

The farm has welcomed new sheep, pigs, and goats to the existing family of Shetland ponies, alpacas, geese, ducks, peafowl, and rabbits, all housed in the beautiful surroundings of Hainault Forest.  

No. 8 Go swimming

By taking advantage of Redbridge's swimming pools, you can relieve stress, improve cardiovascular health, build muscle tone and have fun!

No. 9 Fly a kite

When there's a bit of wind in the air it's the perfect time to enjoy kite flying.

Flying a kite is probably one of those things you think about doing when you're on holiday. But you can fly a kite anywhere if there's a bit of wind and an open space.

No. 10 Rainy day, welly day

When it's pouring with rain, what could be better than throwing on your wellies and waterproofs and splashing around in the puddles?

You just need rain, some waterproof clothing, wellies and yourself.

If you're running around, you could jump in puddles, squelch in mud, splash through paths and bounce across pavements around the park.
