Modern slavery is a hidden crime. It includes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking.

Reporting modern slavery

To report a victim of modern slavery or trafficking, contact the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700. In an emergency, call the police on 999.

What is modern slavery and trafficking?

Modern slavery includes but is not limited to the following types of exploitation:

  • sexual exploitation
  • domestic servitude
  • labour exploitation and bonded labour
  • criminal exploitation
  • forced fraud
  • organ harvesting
  • forced marriage
  • sham marriages
  • surrogate mothers

Human trafficking is when people are moved and forced into exploitation. The movement can be across international borders. It also includes those transported within a country, such as county lines activity or child sexual exploitation.
