Report a dead animal
Report a dead animal on a public highway
We are responsible for removing dead animals from public highways.
If a dead animal is collected by our Street Cleansing Team, it will be scanned to check whether it has a microchip. Where possible, we’ll use the information found on the microchip to contact the owner and tell them that their pet has been found.
We cannot store or release dead animals from council offices.
Private and residential properties
We are not responsible for removing dead animals from private or residential properties. However, we do offer a chargeable collection service for stray animals that do not belong to a resident.
- the cost is £35.15 (VAT inclusive)
- residents must double bag the animal
- the animal must be left clearly visible in the front garden for collection
Alternatively, you can arrange a removal through a private provider.
Street cleansing staff are not insured to enter private property, so we are unable to collect animals from rear gardens.
Book a collection
We provide a chargeable collection service for stray animals that do not belong to a resident and are not on private land.
This charge is £35.15. We’ll contact you to take payment.

What to do if your pet has passed away
We're sorry to hear your pet has passed away.
Unfortunately, we can only remove dead stray animals. We are unable to collect deceased pets belonging to residents.
If you need support with your own pet, please contact your local veterinary practice for advice and assistance.
