Household support fund

We’re aware that people are being called or messaged to pay money for their Household Support Fund application to be processed quickly. These are scams.

We would never ask you to pay any money for your application to be processed. We may contact you by telephone from 0208 708 5926, email you from hsf@redbridge.gov.uk or write to you at your given address.

You may be able to get help from us with essential costs. This is known as the Household Support Fund.

The fund is provided by the government. The funding is available for the period 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.

 

What is the Household Support Fund?

We use this fund to support you if:

  • you’re struggling to afford things like food, water, gas and electricity
  • you’re at risk of falling into arrears with essential bills

This round of funding will focus on providing you with practical support through council services and organisations in the community.

Cash grants will only be given in special conditions.

 

Who can apply?

You can apply if:

  • you're over 18 years old
  • you do not have savings over £6,000
  • you live in Redbridge or temporary accommodation provided by us
  • you experience financial hardship, particularly with essential costs like food and energy
  • We’ll consider your application if you're getting no recourse to public fund

You do not have to be getting benefits to get help from us. If you get benefits, they will not be affected by the Household Support Fund.

 

How to apply

You’ll need:

  • proof of income from all adults living in the household, for example bank statements, payslips
  • any debt information
  • proof of ID such as passport, driver’s licence, national identity card
  • proof of address such as council tax, gas, electricity or water bill
  • tenancy agreement if you’re renting
  • utility bills for gas, electricity and water for the last three months
