Street Watch Redbridge privacy notice

The London Borough of Redbridge Council is a data controller under the UK Data Protection law as we collect and process personal information about you. We do so in order to ensure that the necessary Advanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check can be carried out so that you are eligible to take part in the Street Watch scheme. Please see below why we need your information.

Why we need your information and how we use it

Street Watch Redbridge is a voluntary scheme run by the community for the community. Whilst endorsed by the London Borough of Redbridge and the Metropolitan Police Service, the scheme is not owned or administered by either. We will use the information you provide  for the purpose of DBS check, and also to quantify the number of residents involved in the scheme as it progresses. This information is provided by you consensually and therefore is not mandated by legislation.

What type of information is collected from you

To register for our Street Watch we collect the following information from you:

  • Title
  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • E-mail address

 

Who your information may be shared with (internally and externally)

We will share your information with the Disclosure Barring Service.  We may share your information with the Local Government Ombudsman in the event of complaints.

We will not disclose any information to any company outside of LB Redbridge except to prevent fraud, or if required to do so by law.

How long we keep your information (retention period)

Information provided to us will be kept for 5 years then securely destroyed.

How you can access, update or correct your information

The Data Protection law gives you the right to apply for a copy of information about yourself. This is called a Subject Access Request. Find out more on how to make a Subject Access Request.

The accuracy of your information is important to us to be able to provide relevant services more quickly.   We are working to make our record-keeping more efficient.  In the meantime, if you change your address or email address, or if any of your circumstances change or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date,
