Redbridge Mayor
Cllr Bert Jones, Mayor of Redbridge 2026/27 Municipal Year

It’s a great honour and a privilege for me to have been nominated as the new Mayor of Redbridge. I look forward to working with the Leader of the Council and other colleagues and to represent and promoting the Borough as best I can. I especially look forward to meeting many more residents, business and community organisations and getting to know them even better to champion and promote the boroughs diverse small businesses community.
For those who don’t know me, I’ll just say a few words about myself.
Redbridge has been my home for 20 years. I was born in Mexico, but came to the UK as a child. After doing a degree at the University of Manchester, I came to Redbridge and have lived and worked here ever since.
I’ve served as a councillor for most of that time, having been repeatedly elected in Goodmayes from 2010 and Chadwell from 2018. And, of course, having been re-elected last month, I will continue to serve as a councillor in addition to my role as Mayor.
Over the years, I’ve also sat on several committees, including chairing the Planning Committee and the Climate Crisis Working Group. Serving as vice chair of the Homes and Neighborhoods Policy Development Committee. Doing so has given me a good sense of what makes Redbridge tick and how it serves the wider community.
During my year as Mayor, I hope to raise the profile of the borough and help its people, businesses and community groups to achieve their goals. I’ll be aided by my consorts Maria Sanchez and Niki Chahal and the Deputy Mayor Cllr Syeda Choudhury and her consorts.
We're all proud of the diversity of our Borough and we’ve seen over the decades that multiculturalism works here. So, whatever challenges we face, I’m confident that we can overcome them together. I intend to work with multi-faith chaplains to bring people together from all communities. I’ve seen that in my 20 years in the Borough, there is far more that unites us than divides us.
On that note, I have chosen three charities to support during my year both by raising funds for them and by seeking to raise their profiles.
- The first is Parkinson’s UK, which has a strong local presence.
- My second charity is Mind, the mental health charity, which also does excellent work.
- My third charity is Haven House Children’s Hospice which cares for seriously ill babies and children.
