Family History Day at Valentines

Family History Come along to a special Open Day with a prizegiving at 2.00 pm. Organised by the Friends of Valentines Mansion to reward the primary schoolchildren who entered the 2026 Hooker Prize competition, this family history day has something for everyone: Children’s crafts (suitable for aged three and above) in the Victorian Kitchen, themed around the charming story of Fantastic Mr Fox. Cast members from the forthcoming Redbridge Drama Centre production will be on hand to meet the young creatives! Follow a fun Family Trail to discover facts connected to the people who lived in the Mansion from 1696 to 1906 when it was a private family home. Book in advance or just drop in. Visit the Friends of Valentines Mansion stall to hand in your answers and enter the Prize Draw for a Roald Dahl Fantastic Mr Fox jigsaw puzzle. Have you ever wondered who lived in your own house? Or maybe you’d love some tips for how to find out more about your ancestors? Meet representatives from Redbridge Museum, Redbridge Heritage Centre, East of London Family History Society and Ilford Historical Society. For the 2026 annual Hooker Prize Schools’ Competition, pupils were asked to write a letter as if they were a visitor to Valentines in the 19th century. The prizes and certificates will be awarded in the Drawing Room at 2.00 pm. Entry on the day is FREE, There is a charge of £3.00 per person for the Family Trail.
