Regular activities for children

We run lots of regular reading, learning and fun activities in the libraries. Choose the activities suitable for your children's age and interests.

Reading activities

Babies love books so it's never too early to bring your child to the library. Enjoy stories and song together with your child and meet other parents and children. These weekly events last for approximately half an hour and are suitable for under 5s. These sessions are free and no booking is required.

Practise your reading skills with friendly volunteers. These sessions are suitable for children just beginning to read and any primary school children who need some help and encouragement with their reading. Sessions are free and no booking is required.

Enjoyable reading groups for youngsters in the borough. We chat about books, play games, do quizzes and have fun together. We aim to inspire young people to read adventurously and develop confidence in expressing their opinions. The books are free and no booking is required to attend these sessions.

Learning activities

Come along to this hands-on session of basic programming with our cool Code-a-Pillars. By arranging and re-arranging the segments of the caterpillars your children will have fun while learning about directions, sequencing and problem-solving. An interactive session to give your child their first taste for coding.

Venue: Redbridge Central Library, Lab Central

Dates and times:Friday 18 October, Tuesday 12 Nov (in the children's library) and Friday 20 December, 3pm to 4pm

Cost and bookings: Free, first come first served (limited spaces available)

 

Find books, computers and links to homework and study support websites. We do not provide tutoring, but at any time, in any library, staff will help you find what you need. These sessions are free and no booking is required.

Children 9 to 11 years old, supported by tech volunteers, have the opportunity to learn the basics of coding with easy to follow step-by-step guides by making animations and games. The clubs are free but spaces are limited. Please book in advance with the library.

We are looking for people with a tech background to help us run these sessions and encourage a new generation of young programmers. Please contact the libraries for details.

Join these "just for fun" clubs and spend an afternoon with other children playing your favourite board games such as Snakes and ladders, Crazy faces, Faces bingo and Ludo. These sessions are free and no booking is required.

Seven Kings Library Families Games Club: Every Tuesday except the second Tuesday of the month, 5:45pm to 6:45pm.
