Redbridge launches new COVID Safe scheme for businesses
Published: 18 September 2020
Redbridge Council is calling on all businesses to apply for the newly launched COVID Assurance Scheme.
The Council has partnered with the Ilford BID to help businesses across the borough adhere to government guidelines and show they meet safety standards around distancing, hygiene and other COVID-19 rules.
The scheme provides businesses in Redbridge with a consumer mark award of up to level 5 to show their customers that they are a safe and responsible business. It supports businesses with COVID-19 risk assessments, offers online support and an alerting system that will notify businesses of the scheme when there are changes to government guidelines.
Businesses will also receive a 'COVID Safe Standard' certificate and sticker for their premises to show customers that they have received accreditation from the Council.
This scheme will also reassure residents, employees and visitors that local businesses are safe to visit.
Cllr Mark Santos, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care, Mental Health & the Ageing, said: "We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Covid Assurance Scheme as it is essential that businesses comply with COVID-19 rules. The health and safety of our residents is our number one priority, and we must all do whatever we can to ensure everyone is protected.
“We need to make sure our businesses are safe but we are all in this together, so residents must remember to keep 2 meters apart where possible, wash or sanitise hand regularly, wear a face covering when around others you don’t live with, not to visit elderly or vulnerable relatives if you are feeling unwell and only to get tested if you have symptoms.”
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Councillor Jas Athwal, said: "We have worked closely with businesses across the borough during the COVID-19 outbreak and through this scheme we are taking our support one step further. This scheme ensures that businesses have the correct measures and support in place to comply with COVID-19 rules, while also serving to reassure residents that local shops are doing everything possible to keep us all safe.”
"I would encourage all businesses to apply for an assurance mark and follow government guidelines. We are taking this very seriously, and where businesses do not comply with the government rules, we will investigate and take enforcement action if necessary. We have already taken action against a restaurant in Woodford Bridge for not complying with COVID-19 rules. If you come across any businesses that aren’t following government guidelines, please report them. We all need to do everything that we can to keep Redbridge safe.”
