Local residents Train to Take Off

Published: 13 October 2017

London City Airport has funded a free employment and training course for residents working in partnership with Work Redbridge.

Delivered by Local Training provider JD Training Ltd, the course specifically develops the skills needed to work in the hospitality industry and includes a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate, Food and Bar Licencing training and Employability Skills training.

The first group of learners who were recruited from the Council’s Jobs and Apprenticeship fair in September recently finished the one week course. They were awarded certificates by Councillor Bob Littlewood, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Fairness and Liam McKay, Director of Public Affairs, during a visit to London City Airport where they found out about employment opportunities available at the airport.

JD Training Ltd has begun supporting the learners to apply for their next opportunity at London City airport.

Lydie Nyenbo from Barkingside attended the course and said, “The training was great. I’ve learnt lots of new skills and I’d really like to start working at the airport. I’ve started my application already.’

Councillor Bob Littlewood, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Fairness said, “It’s fantastic for London City Airport to fund this course. It will help many of our residents who are looking for a helping hand into employment. The skills learnt throughout the week have put our residents in the best possible position to start an exciting career with the airport.”

Future courses will be advertised on our Work Redbridge events page.
