Every Redbridge child offered a local school place
Published: 3 March 2021
This year, Redbridge Council received 3,818 applications for school places.
With children set to return to full-time education on Monday, 8 March, Redbridge schools have been doing their utmost to provide a safe environment for teachers, school staff, and children.
Of those who applied, nearly 67 percent of local families successfully secured a place at their first secondary school choice. This is a slight decline on the 69 percent who secured their first preference last year due to ‘all through schools’ making direct offers to parents.
81 percent of families successfully secured a place at either their first or second preference school. This year, 94 percent who applied were offered at least one of their top six preferences.
Councillor Elaine Norman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Redbridge is fortunate to have some of the best schools in the UK, and we are incredibly grateful to our teachers and school staff for their fantastic work making the borough’s schools as safe as possible throughout the pandemic.”
“The outstanding reputation of our excellent schools has led to a high demand, and it’s pleasing that we have been able to accommodate our residents by helping them secure a place for every pupil who applied on time.”
