Published: 25 July 2018
Redbridge residents can get a first peek of the design proposals for the new Wanstead pool, leisure facilities and high school improvements at a drop-in event organised by the council.
The event will be held on Monday 30 July at Wanstead Library from 2pm to 8pm. The new swimming pool which is one of the council’s commitments will be located inside Wanstead High School.
As well as a new community pool, plans include:
• improved leisure facilities
• a dance studio
• improved teaching environment at Wanstead school i.e. Art; Geography; History; RE; dining and main kitchen
• improved disabled access for leisure and school
This is one of many events lined up to gather the public’s initial thoughts on the proposed designs for Wanstead pool.
A full 12-week public consultation will begin late Summer to give people the opportunity to comment on the planning application, and subject to planning advice designs may be revised. It is estimated that works on site will begin later in the year.
Leader of the council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said: “We’re quickly progressing this much-anticipated election promise to give residents in the west of the borough first-class swimming facilities that are within easy reach. Once completed, this new pool, improved school and leisure facilities will encourage more people to take part in a physical activity to better their own health and I’m keen to showcase these early proposals.
“It’s important that residents views are considered on the pool and improvement works to the school and leisure facilities and a full consultation is being launched to ensure we gather the views of the community and deliver the best facilities for them.”
