Council submits planning permission for new housing developments

Published: 4 February 2019

Redbridge Council has submitted its planning applications for two housing developments in Hainault.  Residents have until 24 February 2019 to submit comments.

The proposals for Brocket Way and Woodman Road are an opportunity to build much-needed homes for 90 Redbridge families.

The new generation modular properties will provide comfortable long-term housing for local people who would otherwise find themselves in hostels or bed and breakfast accommodation, often outside the borough.

The proposals are subject to a rigorous planning process, which includes a lengthy public consultation phase.

This follows four drop-in sessions held locally so that residents could ask questions or raise any concerns about the scheme.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness Cllr Farah Hussain said: “Central government’s austerity measures and benefit changes, combined with rising rents and a lack of housing supply in the private sector means many thousands of Redbridge families are without a home and on our waiting list.  This situation has a devastating human impact and one we are determined to address by pledging to build 1,000 genuinely affordable homes.  To ensure the availability of safe and secure accommodation for some of those caught in the housing crisis we are proposing to build family accommodation at Brocket Way and Woodman Road.  I’d encourage as many people as possible to have their say on our proposals.”

The full planning submission for Brocket Way and Woodman Road can be found on the council’s planning portal, with further details and a FAQ.
