Goodmayes Park Extension officially renamed Orchard Playing Fields

Published: 7 December 2018

The extension at Goodmayes Park will be known as Orchard Playing Fields following an official renaming ceremony yesterday.

The grounds have been transformed after an orchard was planted two years ago thanks to funding from the council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

Leader of the Council Jas Athwal, Deputy Leader Kam Rai and Redbridge Mayor Debbie Kaur-Thiara joined students from Mayespark Primary School and local group Friends of Goodmayes Park to mark the occasion.

Cllr Athwal said: “It was great to be joined with local resident groups and school children for the official renaming of the grounds.  The extension at Goodmayes Park was originally a playing field and with the growing orchard it was fitting we change the name.  I hope residents will enjoy this open space in one of the many fantastic parks we have in Redbridge.”

Each year the council spends 15 per cent of the CIL on local projects.  Consultation is currently open for you to have your say on how this fund should be spent by nominating projects you would like to see in your area next year.

Residents and community groups are encouraged to get involved in CIL consultations as it provides a great opportunity for the community to work together to improve local neighbourhoods.  The consultation closes on 1 February 2019.
